Today was the first day of pre-planning for my first classroom! I am teaching at a new school so we get two weeks of pre-planning. As my blog is titled, I will be teaching 3rd grade this year! I am very excited to get the year started. :)
I met with my 3rd grade team. There are 4 of us in total. Best part? The only person I knew coming into the school is also on the 3rd grade team! She is a fellow ProTeach grad, so I am so excited because we will have similar teaching philosophies and styles! Today we found out that we will be team teaching this year. This means two teachers are teaching reading and language arts and two teachers are teaching math and science. This way, each teacher will be teaching two classes of students. I chose to teach the math and science class. I think that this is definitely my strength area. This team teaching idea was news to all of us though! I am glad I have not made literacy work stations or anything just yet! Luckily, since I am a new teacher, I can make the 4 bins of stuff that I do have work for any subject area.
Everything we learned about was GREAT news! Except for one thing. We will NOT have any computers in the classroom for student use. AND we will NOT have a projector, interactive white board, or any other form of technology. This was very unsettling to all of us teachers. I am definitely planning to do a donors choose project for technology. I am also going to look into classroom grants for technology. More than anything, I want an interactive white board. At least a projector. I mean, I am the math and science teacher. How can I teach math without a projector? Think about it.... It would be difficult! I am also looking into buying a projector to connect to my iPad. Now that would be awesome! Anyone know anything about cheap projectors and what would be necessary to connect it to my iPad wirelessly? I know I can get an apple TV and just some cords and it should work...
Anyway, I am so excited for this school year to start. I cannot wait to get into my classroom and start decorating! Unfortunately, since it is a brand new school, we cannot get into our rooms yet. We will be going into the school starting on Monday of next week. Thursday I have training and Friday I want to get planning for the first week of school. Basically, I have Monday through Wednesday to decorate and set up my classroom. This will be a challenge! But I'm ready for it! (And all of my friends and family are to!)
I can tell it's going to be an amazing school year and I cannot wait to get more information and get started planning!
