Day 3 of Preplanning

Well, the time has come where I was given so much information that I just feel SO overwhelmed! Although I am happy to finally get the info, it's a lot to get at once. Today we made our 3rd grade team syllabus and planned for a lot of classroom management ideas. I really want to use Class Dojo and the teacher that I'm team teaching with does too. We just have to get it approved. Hopefully they approve it! I'd be so upset if they don't :(

I am very happy with everything, but things are much stricter than I initially thought or was told during my interview process. We were given the math pacing guide and given a chance to look at the curriculum and textbooks. We were also given the lesson plan template they want us to use. We have to turn in our lesson plans weekly. Like all of the first weeks lesson plans must be submitted the Friday before school starts. Talk about a LOT of work! I'm happy with the format though, the model is just different that what I am used to. Only those teacher friends would truly understand what I'm talking about. Anyway, I only know for sure that I have to do these lesson plans for Math. I assume I have to for science and social studies too. I'll find that stuff out hopefully very soon!

We haven't seen the science or social studies curriculum or anything yet...

We did receive our class schedules today! That was SO exciting! I love mine. They just had a little error because we never told them officially who was teaching math/science and who was doing reading/language arts. Mine and the teacher I'm team teaching with had opposite schedules. We should be getting it all fixed and worked out tomorrow. All of 3rd grade has what they teach for 2 hours in the morning, then specials, recess, lunch, then the 3 hours in the afternoon. 2 hours for what we teach and an hour for social studies. Looking at it more though, I'm realizing that hopefully we can edit that one hour a day for social studies. That's SO much social studies!

So the only issue I still have with my school in general is the pacing guide. They not only want us math teachers to teach the FIRST day of school...they want us to cover 2 lessons worth of material! I've never heard of teaching the first day of school in elementary. It's the day to go over procedures, expectations, rules, establish routines, etc. Still not sure how this is going to happen.

Happy Teaching!

Feeling Overwhelmed,
Michelle

Ps. Still no access to our school or classroom. HOPEFULLY we can go on Monday. I don't even know what I would do if we can't get in on Monday...
